Profile
Robin Abedon, Certified Educational Planner, has
a rich background in education as a teacher, college
admissions officer, counselor, school trustee
and administrator.
Throughout
her years in education, Abedon has mentored students
in the process of academic selection and admissions,
counseled them in curricular and co-curricular
planning and motivated them to make rewarding
choices.
Since
moving to Florida in 1995, Abedon has specialized
in educational counseling. As a Certified Educational
Planner,
she works with young people who are preparing
for their college education. She guides students
in all facets
of the complex and challenging process of college
selection and planning.
Abedon
is a member of IECA (Independent Educational Consultants
Association) and NACAC
(National Association for College Admission Counseling).
She has taken an active role in the leadership
of IECA
as a member of its Board of Directors (2004-2007,
2008-2011). She has served on its Executive Board
as: Vice-President for Committees (2008-2009);
Secretary/treasurer and Chairman of the Membership
Committee (2006-2007). From 2002-2004 she was
chairperson of the College Committee.
Abedon’s
primary volunteer commitment in Palm Beach County
has been her service to the
Childrens Home Society of South Florida. She has
served this organization for over ten years as
a member
of its Board of Trustees and its Executive Board.
In 2005-2006, she was the Chairman of the Board
of Trustees.
Prior to moving to Florida, Abedon taught English
in the Newton, MA and Barrington, RI school systems.
She was also a member of Brown University's admissions
staff, where she interviewed and evaluated prospective
students. As Director of the academic program
of Rhode Island Council on Economic Education,
at
Rhode Island College, she trained teachers and
worked with students to develop basic understandings
of Economics.
Abedon served as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees
at Friends Academy in North Dartmouth, MA.
She was a member of the Board of Trustees at the
Community Preparatory School, an inner-city private
school
in Providence, RI, devoted to educating students
who might not have the opportunity to enroll in
fine
secondary schools and colleges.
Abedon graduated from Tufts University magna cum
laude in English and Phi Beta Kappa. Her graduate
work
was done at Harvard University, where she earned
a Master of Arts in the teaching of English at
the
Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Master
of Public Administration at the
Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
